Nine more nights to dream of how great it’s going to be to have support in navigating the often scary, yet exhilarating, journey of moving into work you love.

If you love getting gifts, I have two early bird gifts for you for signing up for the Reinvent Your ROLE program by January 31, 2011.

I’d love to give you “H3meaningfulcareer826103workthatfits82610ow to Make a Meaningful Career Change” and “How to Create Work That Fits You” for FREE! That’s a $50 value.

All you need to do to get these two CDs is to register for the Reinvent Your ROLE program by midnight Pacific Time on January 31, 2011. Hi everyone!

I hope you’re enjoying this series, to help you get unstuck, unblocked, and out of the box when you’re having a tough time.

How often do you celebrate yourself? Sometimes, we’re stuck because we only berate, rather than celebrate ourselves. This week’s Work from Within Wisdom Wednesday message is about giving yourself a hand. It’s a great way to get unstuck. Enjoy!

This week’s QUESTION: How often do you give yourself a hand?

If you want support for getting unstuck, choose the Get a Move On Cards. Pick one of the 52 cards from the deck, you’ll be prompted to pay attention to yourself, on the inside. Find More on the Get a Move

Tired of work that doesn’t fit you? Been trying to figure out your next career move, but feel confused and stuck?

Get relief!

In less than two weeks, on February 7, I’ll be launching the Reinvent Your ROLE program, a 10-session series with my partner, Hay House, to help you transform your career. If you’ve been feeling scared and uncertain about your career future, and your bound-and-determined to do work that truly fits you — not some cookie cutter corporate cog-in-the-wheel gig — you’re in for a transformative experience.

The Reinvent Your ROLE program is NOT your run-of-the-mill career counseling session. No way. No assessments or tests to tell you what you “should” do. Instead, a proven process to help you clarify what you want to do, with support to help you move in the direction of your true desires. And along the way, you’ll discover innovative, fun tools to help you stay calm, clear, and confident about your future.

But don’t take my word for it. I just created the program after 10 years of guiding people through significant shifts in life and livelihood. No, really. Listen to Terri and Marcia, who went through the Reinvent Your ROLE program in 2010, and hear what they have to say about how it gave them the boost and the bravery to make meaningful career changes.

And, if you register by January 31, you can get two free CDs to help you navigate career change more easily.  Watch this video and learn how.

IStevie Puckett had a blast being interviewed by my friend and career coach, Stevie Puckett of e-careercoach.com You’ll find the interview high energy, engaging, and full of ideas to help you make a meaningful career change.

Do you know the four key steps to moving out of work you hate and into work you’ll love? As you read through them, be honest with yourself — do you know how to take these steps? Are you confident about taking these steps?

(1) be aware enough of your frustrations to know that you need to make a change

(2) get clear about what’s next

(3) take the steps to move into the work you feel will fit for you, and then

(4) have the confidence to pursue that work, allowing fears and doubts to melt away

If you’ve ever taken these steps, only to be lost, confused, or disappointed, then listen as Stevie interviews me, Dr. Susan Bernstein. In this audio, you’ll learn what it really takes to go move frustrated to fantastic!

Also in this recording, you’ll also hear me talk about a great resource to help you through these four step:  My 10-session Reinvent Your ROLE program. It’s for people who are feeling stuck, burned out, or blocked in their work. Is that you? If it is, this program is a proven process that can help you break out of work you don’t love and move into work that you do love.  Enjoy the wisdom that Stevie and I share on what it really takes to navigate career transformation.

Please note:  The recording looks like it should be a video…but it’s audio-only.

Hey everybody!

I hope you’re enjoying this series, to help you get unstuck, unblocked, and out of the box when you’re having a tough time. This week’s wisdom is about trusting your gut. And you’ll find the geeky science behind why your gut is so wise.

This week’s QUESTION: When do you trust your gut?

If you want to reinvent or renew yourself, it’s helpful to go beyond figuring things out when you’re feeling stuck, boxed in, or blocked. It’s helpful to also feel out the situation. Your mind is great for helping you work things out, AND your body also has incredible wisdom, and I created a tool for helping you listen to yourself more deeply. That’s what Work from Within Wisdom Wednesdays are about. I’ll share a way to get unstuck from the Get A Move On deck of cards I created.

I awakened this morning and wondered, “Can it really be January?” and “Can it really be 2011?

I look out the window, and it’s dark and drizzling. I realize that the heat is running in the house. Yes, it must be January. And I remember celebrating the passage into the New Year in a sweet, quiet way with a dear friend last night, so it must be 2011.

My morning practice is to awaken and write whatever comes, a bit like Julia Cameron’s “morning pages,” as she suggests in her book for regaining creativity, The Artist’s Way. This morning, I wrote about how I intend to express my energy and creativity in my role as a career reinvention & renewal coach and host of Hay House Radio’s “Work from Within” show in 2011. I noticed that had created 11 ways to come alive, and I thought I’d share these ideas with you, so that you, too, can come alive in your work.

  1. armsatsunsetMaximize your ROLE, every day. Your ROLE is your Return on Life Energy. In other words, investing your time and effort into people and activities, and ideally getting back more than you put out. It’s about minimize your energy drains and maximizing your energy gains. And then transforming your drains and gains into your desires, and pursuing those. If you want to know a lot more about how to maximize your ROLE, I’ve made a video for you. Watch it and discover how to get the most out of your life, with ease!
  2. Start your day off with a ritual or practice that feeds you with energy. Instead of feeling drained before you start your work each day, fill yourself up. Do something you love at the beginning of the day. You’ll feel more in touch with yourself, and you’ll have more energy to go through your day. Spend as little as five minutes, at the beginning of your day, in a pleasurable activity. It could be anything! Dance to an upbeat song. Sing or hum a tune that makes you giggle. Tickle a 2-year old. Chat with a friend. Read a few pages of an inspirational book. You get the idea. Have fun with this!
  3. Trust that you matter. Too many of us question whether we are doing valuable work, especially with all the talk of being “value-added” in the business world. Please know that just by being yourself, you matter. Of course it feels good to do work that makes a difference. But it’s not your work that defines you. Even without a job, you are inherently important. You touch other people’s lives in meaningful ways, without even knowing how.
  4. Be thankful for what is working in your work. The way our brains are wired makes it easy for us to focus on the negative. So it’s up to us to find the positive. Whatever you focus your energy and attention on grows in your awareness. So resist the temptation to pick apart the nasty, frustrating, upsetting parts of your job. Instead, make a list of what is positive and feels good. And focus on growing that. You’ll feel better.
  5. Don’t take frustrations at work too personally. Even people who are deeply passionate about their work are not immune from disappointments and delays. If you expect work to be perfect, you’re setting yourself up for failure. But if you expect that your life and livelihood are like the tides…that they move in and out…you can maintain your center and your dignity when things don’t go as you expected. Let yourself shake off frustration quickly, and move on.
  6. Express appreciation to your co-workers and clients. What you appreciate grows in value. Have you ever noticed that it feels good to sincerely tell people that they’ve done a good job? So, even if you do this selfishly for yourself to feel the “buzz” of sharing a positive comment, speak to the people you work with and let them know that they matter. You’ll be amazed at what positive energy comes back your way over time. And you’ll be fostering positivity in the workplace, which is so needed!
  7. Find some new skill, talent, or ability to develop — one that uplifts and inspires you. Our world is changing faster and faster. If you have multiple talents, you can be more flexible in the workplace, because you’ll be able to contribute more. What class might you like to take? What ability would you like to deepen? Invest some time each week to build a new skill or deepen an existing one. It could be Chinese cooking, web development, engine repair, or anything that lights you up. In the long run, you’ll be glad you took the time to do this.
  8. Find something that inspires you about your work and focus on building or growing that. Think about what maximizes your Return on Life Energy in your work. And seek to build your expertise or abilities in that. You’ll feel the power of becoming masterful at your craft, like an artisan. And you’ll feel more connected to your work and why it really matters to you.Breakthrough! Jumping of happiness
  9. Step outside your comfort zone, regularly. The best practice I know for avoiding getting stuck, boxed in, or blocked at work is to stretch yourself beyond your comfort zone. Many people say they want to be “comfortable,” but over time, if you don’t try new experiences, you actually stiffen up. As Helen Keller said, “Life is a daring adventure.” Challenge yourself every day to say, do, or be something that feels edgy or awkward, and you’ll keep growing and knowing yourself better. This ability to tolerate emotional discomfort and awkwardness is a necessity to cultivate if you want a fuller joy in life.
  10. Listen to your heart and trust your gut. Sometimes, work gets very cerebral. Yet when your heart and gut are calling out to you, listen! If your heartstrings are tugging for more of something (like more connections with your co-workers) or your gut is tied in knots (maybe over work that doesn’t fit), listen up! Put your head in the service of your heart and gut. Answer their call with wise action.
  11. Trust that you are carried by bigger energies than yourself. Sometimes, despite all of your efforts, actions, and intentions, you may not get the results you desire. In those times, its especially important to remember that you are part of the bigger fabric of life, all of which is interwoven. In such moments, you may find relief and direction by offering a prayer or a wish for guidance, to discover through signals, symbols, and even through strangers, how you can be of service to the greater good of the world.

I hope that these words inspire you in 2011. If it feels right, print them out and post them in your work area, or leave them on a file on your computer that you can refer back to from time to time. We all need reminders from time to time to help us to come alive in our work, so we can make a difference.

My hope is that you trust your gut, listen to your heart, and create your work from within…in 2011 and beyond!

Susan
