Work from Within Coaching FAQs

What can I expect from a session?

I custom-tailor every session to you, with the goal of helping you be true to you in the work that you do! My orientation is to help you get clear about what you want to accomplish together, whether for one session or when we work together for a minimum of three months. Between sessions, we usually co-create an exercise or assignment to help you deepen your learning and self-awareness. In the Urgent Care single sessions, we move as far and as fast as we can, and I often help clients get very clear in a short time. However, it’s important to be realistic and patient, especially if you’re looking to answer the question, “What’s next in my working life?” Please be generous with yourself, and give yourself a minimum of three months for that. That way, you’ll have time to integrate all the perspectives, practices, and processes I’ll be sharing with you.

I’ve worked with many kinds of professionals:  Many of my clients have made the decision to leave stressful, poorly fitting jobs. I’ve supported hundreds of clients to stand up for what they believe in and express themselves in powerful ways at work. With my years in marketing and management consulting and running my own business, I’ve also helped clients to launch their own successful ventures. Learning new strategies for attaining harmony, balance, and ease at work has been a part of many of the journeys of the people I’ve coached.

In our work together, I may help you clarify what matters to you, sorting out the “should” path from the “want to” path. Or I might help you master new skills, especially mind-body practices that can bring you calm, clarity, and confidence. Or we might lay out the steps to a project or process, and hone an action plan. You always get the best of my 25 years of business experience, my MBA sensibilities, and the sensitivity and deep wisdom that I honed in my highly experiential PhD in Mind/Body Psychology. I’ll gladly guide you to put your mind in the service of heart and gut, so you can be true to you in all that you do!

Why do you either offer single sessions or a minimum three month coaching package?

Many of my clients start off with a single session, and they find that they gain a lot of clarity and relief. Once they’ve done this, some are done. Others decide they really want support for a longer-term goal or internal shift, and they sign up for a coaching package for a minimum of three months (and some of my clients get started right away with three months of coaching). Yet others come back for single sessions as needed. All of those are fine.

From the time I launched Work from Within in 2005, I’ve been experimenting with all kinds of coaching rhythms – from every single week (that was too much) to once a month (that was a giant flop). And here’s my important discovery: The clients who meet on a regular, rhythmic schedule, optimally three times a month, really absorb what’s happening and make significant shifts. Those who don’t meet regularly take a lot longer to accomplish their goals, and they get more frustrated with themselves and with me. But after just three short months, 90 little days, they start flying. And then, they can move to a rhythm that’s a little less frequent, like once or twice a month. After we know each other and establish a strong relationship, then we’ll have much more flexibility in how we can work together.

If you really want to see change in a short time, my strong guidance is to give yourself the gift of 90 days of dedicated, frequent support in a caring coaching process. I’ve found that just committing to that has opened up all kinds of unanticipated miracles for my clients. What miracles would you love to experience when you enter into a coaching relationship? So, when would you like the magic to start? Catalyze the magic now and sign up for coaching.

Remember, if you want ultimate flexibility and the three-month option is more than you want to start off with, you’re welcome to book as many Urgent Care sessions as you like.

What kinds of results do you help people to attain?

My overall goal is to help you to be true to you in the work that you do. Since 2005, I’ve helped hundreds of people to do this in many different ways. A few examples:

A veteran of 25 years in PR had been laid off from her last two jobs and said she had no idea what she wanted to do next. In our work together, she revealed her love for singing. That opened up a whole juicy exploration of what it meant to do work she really loved, instead of simply doing work she was qualified to do. She’s now acting in community theater, landing voice-over gigs that use her soothing voice, and freelancing the event planning skills she loves to use. She regained her life energy in our work together, and even met and married her life partner within a year. Sweet!

A highly accomplished manager in the non-profit realm was having trouble being persuasive to the Executive Director and Board members of her large organization. I helped her to find her inner confidence and her authentic voice. She went from being perceived of as “a mouse” to becoming known as a proud, loyal “lion.” She rebuilt her rapport with her Executive Director and impressed the Board so much that, ironically, they suggested she needed to move to a larger organization with a bigger impact, which she’s now done.

After 15 years in very senior corporate Human Resources roles for major Fortune 100 companies, one of my clients called me and said, “I just quit my latest job after only three months, because it was a terrible mismatch. I need help to create a new way of working.” I applauded his commitment to himself. As we worked together, it became clear how much this former attorney wanted to be an advocate for employees, and how much doing that for large companies impeded that ability. We explored the idea of him being an HR advocate for individuals. Initially, he balked, because he’d had his own solo law practice and struggled financially. I helped him to overcome his money worries and create a business that would fulfill him and build his bank account. He made more money as a solo practitioner in fewer hours per week, and loved doing work in a new way.

I’ve got lots more stories, and I think reading what my clients have to say, in their own words, is even more powerful. So please, I invite you to read the testimonials my clients have written on my LinkedIn profile.

What should I know about your policies and procedures?

The most important things people like to know:

  • I offer coaching appointments from 9 am – 5 pm Pacific Time, Tuesdays through Fridays.
  • You can book your appointments with me online, so you find dates and times that work for you. You don’t have to always have your appointments the same day of the week, or even the same time of day.
  • I have a 48-hour cancellation policy, so that I can best ensure that all of my clients get time with me when they need it. You can reschedule appointments online, too.
  • I like to make our working relationship as smooth as possible, so we can focus on helping you create what you desire. When you sign up for coaching, I send you a New Client Orientation document that tells you how to get the most out of our coaching together (with suggestions like keeping a journal and hand writing your notes in it), and what you can expect of me.

Anything else you need to know before signing up? Just drop us a line and we’ll get back to you as quickly as we can! Love to get you started on the journey of being true to you in the work that you do!
