The Heart & Guts of Career Change

When you consider making a career change, what speaks louder? Your head? Your gut? Your heart?

All too often, when we realize we no longer enjoy the work we're doing, we rationalize. We get caught in the mental maze of our minds. So you might feel your belly tie in knots when you walk into the office. You might feel your heart pounding ferociously when your manager calls you at home late at night. But your mind might say things like, "If I just stay a little longer, I'll earn my bonus." Or, "Maybe I'll get promoted and then I'll have more control over my career." Or “If I leave this job, what if I never find another job?”

What if you trusted your gut to get you out of a bad situation? What if you trusted your heart to guide you towards what's best for you?

I encourage you to spend this week listening “below the neck” and hear your body’s wisdom about the change you seek. Tune in to your gut instincts. Envision a scenario that might happen if you trusted your belly brain. Do you immediately envision fearful situations? If so, that’s probably your mind chattering loudly. See if you can invite your mind to do its thinking work and help you create a positive picture.

Also listen to your heart. What does it desire? What song do your heartstrings play for you? Again, if your mind starts to send fearful missives, ask it to think of ways to put your heart’s advice into action.

Of course, of course, we need to be practical. I’m advocating making changes at a pace that fits you. Put a toe in the water. Reach out to someone for career advice. Notice what pulls your energy. Instead of staying stuck, think of each next step as truly finding nourishment on this journey of life.

What if you allowed yourself to “work from within” and really use your whole-bodied wisdom to create the work and life you want? What might happen? How does that feel?

Adding Money Coaching to Career Coaching

Here's an interesting thought:  How is your relationship to money similar to your relationship to work?

Perhaps you are fearful about both.  Maybe conservative, or a risk-taker.  Maybe you are very methodical about one and sloppy about the other.

I just took a workshop with a wonderful friend, Deborah Price, author of Money Magic, and learned about how money is an energetic exchange in the world.  We inherit patterns about how we use money from our parents.  Sometimes, these are helpful, like experiencing generosity and abundance, but sometimes, these are dysfunctional, like feeling scarcity, worrying about becoming poor, and overspending.

Many of these money patterns impact how we work.  They guide us to choose working situations.  For example, if you're a big spender and you don't like to watch your bottom line, you might need a job that brings in enough money for you to forgo watching your portfolio.  This strategy might keep you locked-in to a well-paying but not so exciting job.

Guess what?  I learned so much from the weekend that I am pursuing training as a Money Coach! That means I can assist you in finding work-life-financial balance in your life, so that you can be freed up to enjoy your time and relax more about the money.

Are you interested in getting assistance with your patterns around money?  Contact me and let me know you'd like to discuss money coaching.  I'm happy to talk to you about how I can assist you.

WebCam Conferencing:  Using Skype to Coach Clients Worldwide

If you've been considering coaching but feel like you're living far away, we've just gotten closer.  I've added a new tool, Skype WebCam Conferencing.  If you have Skype, you can see me.  And, if you have a web cam, too (very inexpensive...you can get one for about $30-$50), I can see you too.

This great tool allows me to see you and get a sense of what's really happening for you, so I can be of greater assistance. I've been helping clients in cities including Vancouver, Paris, Los Angeles, and Tampa as they navigate career transitions.  Skype makes the process even more fun than just the phone.

Does this greater connection make your more interested in starting coaching?  Sign up for a free 30-minute get acquainted session and let me help you get unstuck and into more energizing work that fits for you!
