Philosophy

Work from Within™ is built around an integral philosophy, that is founded on the belief that when we when we over-focus on the "shoulds" of life, and direct most of our attention to external sources of authority, we sap our life energy. By contrast, when we align our thoughts, emotions, and inner awareness, we make decisions and choices that move us in satisfying, life-affirming directions. Work from Within ™ strives to be a resource that provides experiential education in creating a working life that really does "Work From Within™."

The principles of the Work from Within™ philosophy are simple:

  • We each have a limited amount of life energy in our bodies. Different activities, people, and places either drain us or fill us with life energy. By knowing what drains and fills our energy, and making choices in support of filling ourselves, we can lead life-affirming, positive lives.

  • When we follow our passions, we fill our life with energy, excitement, vitality, and creativity. Let's get as much of this as we can -- rather than living a life of drudgery.

  • To make very personal decisions, such as what career to pursue, logic alone is not enough. We can lead a much more satisfying life if we can listen to our gut, heart, and our whole body, and all the information it has to share with us. However, in Western society, we are conditioned to discard or devalue bodily information and to favor our intellect. But our intellect is a poor judge of personal matters. When it comes to career, we need to get personal, and to look and feel inside of ourselves to know what's important and express it.

  • When we move, we change. For example, we know that if we are stuck on a problem and go for a walk, when we change the environment and move, we often get clear about how to proceed. Movement in a Work from Within ™ session might look like extending an arm or taking a step -- and somehow, we gain some insight, some new view into ourselves. Movement might also take the form of an experiment, like trying some aspect of a potential new career.

Together, these elements form the foundation of the Work from Within ™ philosophy.
